Hussein Chalayan

My current favourite designer.

Hussein Chalayan. A fashion architect. A magician who makes fashion more intrigueing then it ever had been. A true philosopher who aims to convey deeper messages through his clothes and his shows.

I was totally awe struck when I saw his shows last year.(on the internet, in case anyone's wondering. Would have been better if it was live at the show) I held my breath as the model strutted a pose and stayed that very pose to allow thw magic of the clothes to perform in their own time.

Slowly, the zip was pulled down by an invisble hand, and the collars widen as though with a life of their own. I paused and replayed that screen over and over. Did my eyes trick me? wow.

In that moment, I became a little girl, all eager to tell everyone what I have seen.

Of course, my curiosity didn't just end there. (I have this thing where I enjoy researching and reading up about designer's past and work)

The other day, I was at the library, and I came by this book- Hussein Chalayan, by Nai publishers-Groninger Museum. Wow!

It has a record of all his past work. From his first collection, The Tangent flows done in 1993 to his A/W 2005 collection Genometrix.

Oh, you can check out his webbie too.

Or you can check out my some of my favourites from his collections:

Fashion Fact

Do you know how long it takes to make a man's suit?

70 hours of work
900,000 tacking stitches
and 1 km of thread!

Wow!
Well...thats what they said for the "L'essenza dell'abito" fashion show.
hmm...if that's the standard, then I'm far far away from it.
Let's just pray that one day, I'll get to learn all that from a renowned tailor.
No wonder it's called the craft of tailoring. Not just a skill.
*still breathless from that fact*

My very own fashion studio.

Graduation represents a closure to 3 years in school.

With every ending, there lies a new beginning. Bidding farewell to my old (shared) studio on the campus, I created a new studio on cyber space. My very own fashion studio!

Here i can keep my *sketchbook and *journal, my *mannequin, everything-my little haven.

In loving memory of my old studio:

'Project Rushway'

'Refill brain juice here'

My work space

My car

I sure will miss my old work space.
On the other hand, without changes, there won't be progress.
One day, my work space will be 10 times the size of this studio, fully equipped with a male and female mannequin, a JUKI industrial sewing machine, overlock machine and knit machine. Not to forget a wide drafting table.

My sports car will be parked in my garage.(no longer a 2 dimensional piece of cut-out but a 3 dimensional piece of metal with white leather seats)

All by the Grace of God!
